The Album: Shakespeare's Palpable Hits
The Story
Shakespeare's Palpable Hits grew organically out of Dog Legs & Feet's involvement in the underground theatre scene in Austin and Central Texas.
Several of the band members are alumni of the University of Texas' Shakespeare at Winedale performance program, and wrote music for plays performed in the Winedale theatre stretching back to 1990. After joining together to form Dog Legs & Feet in 1997, they continued working with Austin-based theatre companies, scoring plays by the Rude Mechanicals, the Bedlam Faction, Austin Shakespeare Festival and others. The band also played (and continues to play) benefit shows for the Winedale program and the Actors From The London Stage project.
In 2003, the band worked with the University of Texas to produce a commemorative album of "greatest hits" from Shakespeare productions. The resulting album, called "The Music of Shakespeare at Winedale," went on sale in the Winedale gift shop in July 2003, and all proceeds from sales of that album go to benefit the program.
Later that year, the band re-mastered and enhanced the album to produce a commercial version -- this became Shakespeare's Palpable Hits, released in 2004. All proceeds from the sales of this album are distributed among the musicians and artists who helped make it.
(By the way, the name "Palpable Hits" comes from Hamlet, Act V, Scene 2: "A hit, a very palpable hit.")
